Battle of the Bands

Lip syncing has become an enormously popular form of entertainment over the past decade. Television shows such as “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and “Saturday Night Live” are known to include hilarious lip-syncing skits. There is even a show dedicated solely to lip syncing, appropriately called “Lip Sync Battle,” where celebrities lip sing and dance to well-known songs. Many high schools and colleges have put together lip sync events, including Prattville High School and Huntingdon College. Now, AUM is on the map too! (more…)

Get Your Family Involved with AUM Family Connection

For many students here at AUM, family is perhaps the most important part of their lives. In some cases, students have had to move far away from their families and may feel disconnected. If you fall into the category, the AUM Family Connection is here to save the day. Operating in the Office of Orientation and Transitions, the Family Connection seeks to keep families connected and inform family members of what is happening on campus. Being Privileged: Is it a Terrible Thing?

With all that occurs in a student’s life, it is understandable that some components of campus life may be missed. Once a month, in the Landing at the Nest, students and faculty meet and openly and safely discuss topics affecting them today. With signs placed all across campus, the blunt, yet caring, nature of Hot Topics Café always keeps me coming back for more. The Arcade, So Far

The AUM Computer Science Club has officially received $1,000 in funding from SGA to construct and install the retro arcade station in Warhawk Alley. Construction is expected to begin next week. The arcade is expected to be operational by August. The announcement for funding was delayed, for a number of weeks, but initial funds have been granted, and the project is in motion. Currently, the Computer Science Club is getting materials gathered and assigning duties for the construction of the arcade system. (more…)

Another Important Vote to Cast

As the 2016 presidential elections take place this year, many AUM students will be flexing their constitutional rights and vote for the first time. The debates, platforms and controversy surrounding the presidential candidates generate a lot of buzz and excitement and the election is the topic of conversations across campus. However, voting for the nation’s next president is not the only important vote students can cast this year. AUM holds elections each spring semester for the Student Government Association on campus. Jan. 11 2016 will be remembered for a lot of things. It was the first day of class for the Spring semester. It was the day that the Alabama Crimson Tide won their 16th (or 10th if you are picky) national football championship. We Are in the Same Boat

Do you sometimes feel alone and need someone to understand what you are going through? Is the weight of the world holding you down? There is no need to feel alone when dealing with stress, depression or anxiety. The AUM Counseling Center will begin Mindfulness Group every Friday starting Jan. 29. Dealing with the stress of the semester can be overwhelming and impossible to take on without interaction from other peers. Group counseling will allow you to relieve stress and participate in activities that will help your mental health. There will be seven activities included in the meetings. (more…)

AUM Peace Tree 2015

Christmas lights are being hung, cookies are being baked, and of course trees are going up in nearly every household across the nation. AUM did its part in ringing in the holiday spirit. On Nov. 17, AUM Study Abroad partnered with the Roost to host its second annual AUM World Peace Tree. Students were able to come into the Roost and decorate their own ornament to hang on the tree. The tree adorned with flags from all over the world, including the programs Study Abroad has to offer, and signified the importance of the unity of all countries. (more…)

Hoops Madness

Come out and tip off the 2015-2016 basketball season as the Department of Athletics and the AUM Student Government Association hosts the first inaugural Hoops Madness. This event will include AUM’s Men’s and Women’s Basketball team player introductions, basketball challenges, promotional games and the unveiling of the new student section. “The student section will be more official this season and will truly be the voice of the students,” said Jake Wyatt with Athletic Administration. Theatre AUM 40th Anniversary Gala

Theatre AUM is celebrating its 40th Anniversary with a production that include scenes, songs and monologues from shows that have been performed at Theatre AUM over the last 40 years. AUM Baseball and Softball Make Huge Splashes Under First-year Head Coaches

Two teams, two ideally similar situations and two fantastic seasons under their belt. For the AUM baseball and softball teams, 2015 marked the beginning of a new era. For the first time in either program’s history, they began their 2015 campaign without the head coaches that helped start up their respected sport. The softball team parted ways with head coach Chris Steiner-Wilcoxson in the fall of 2014, after six successful seasons. Steiner-Wilcoxson got the program off of the ground and running during her short tenure at AUM, posting a record of 189-85-2 in the team’s first six years of existence.…

However, the high cost of airfare is a major obstacle, especially for college students who still struggle to balance classes and jobs while aiming towards a degree. AUM Cheerleaders to Participate in First Exhibition

Probably the least talked about sports team on campus is the AUM Cheerleading Squad. The squad consists of 11 girls who have a passion for cheering. Coached by Michelle Crompton, their leader is wanting to expand and make the program bigger. On March 7, the squad members will be heading over to the Cramton Bowl Complex in Montgomery to show a routine they have been preparing.
