The AUM Warhawks took on the West Florida Argonauts in a three game series last weekend, March 12 and 13.
The first game, starting at 5 p.m. on March 12, started off right for the Warhawks. Troy Jones, the senior ace pitcher, took the mound and never left. He scattered six hits and struck out seven Argos to complete the game with a 3-0 win. This was a huge game for the Warhawks, considering West Florida is ranked No. 21 in the nation. This win brought AUM Baseball to 11-7 overall and 9-7 in Gulf South Conference play.
While it was a great celebration to come out and beat this team in the first game of the series, the Warhawks still had two other games they needed to take care of to complete the series.
On March 13, AUM fought hard, but the Argos fought even harder. The bats were hot for West Florida, and they won the series in the doubleheader. AUM rallied in game two and scored two runs to tie the game, but it wasn’t enough. The Argos scored three more runs to end the game 5-2.
Despite the loss, AUM had some standout performances. Senior Grayson Blackwell was one of two to help the Warhawks combine for five hits and four RBIs. Blackwell also had a solo home run in the ninth inning of game one.
