AUM vs Delta State Recap

BY: Hannah Long

The Warhawks of AUM faced the Statesmen of Delta State in a three game series on April 11 and 12.

Game one was a rollercoaster of emotions for both teams. The Statesmen struck first, scoring on a wild pitch by Troy Jones. They scored again in the fourth inning, now leading 4-0.

In the fifth inning, the Warhawks got on the board with an RBI by Hartsfield, making the score 4-1. Delta State scored again, making it 5-1 in the sixth inning, but AUM came back from that deficit and put four runs on the board, making the score 5-5.

Senior Grayson Blackwell is the man to thank for tying the score when he drove in three runs off of a home run. It was his second home run of the season.

The Statesmen were hard to stop, and they kept running up the score, ending the game with a 14-5 win over the Warhawks.

AUM meant business in game two, and they won 11-5 over Delta State.

Senior outfielder Quinterrious Arrington had a career-high of four runs on two hits in this game, with a stolen base and three runs. Mario Galloway had a day as well, knocking in a team-high of three hits. Remember Blackwell from game one? His RBI in game two is what took the lead for the AUM Warhawks in the sixth inning.

The bats stayed hot for the Warhawks in game two, keeping the series 1-1 as they moved into game three.

Game three did not go as the Warhawks wanted it to. Delta State put four runs on the board in the first inning. AUM answered with two runs in the second, but they could not keep Delta State from scoring. The Statesman took game three 15-5, ultimately winning the series.
