MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Nov. 3, 2022- The Alpha Psi Alpha Chapter of the national Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc., at Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) Communication students, are hosting “MAB Week” for students and staff. Starting Nov. 14, the brothers of Alpha Psi Alpha will host events that are focused on supporting AUM students, faculty and staff.

Nov. 14 in Warhawk Alley, there will be a ‘Kickback with BSU.’ Students are asked to bring a canned good. Nov. 15 a the Perch, on the 2nd floor of the Nest, there will be ‘Study Blu, Hall’where students are encouraged to study for finals. Nov. 16, the brothers of Alpha Psi Alpha will hand out treats of appreciation to AUM faculty and staff. Nov. 16 at the Grove, the brothers will put on a “Yard Show” featuring the Talons, AUM’s dance team. All events start promptly at 7:14 p.m., which honors the year the fraternity was founded in 1914.

Aaron Williams, president of the Alpha Psi Alpha chapter, stresses the importance of community service as a part of their brotherhood. “We planned these events specifically because we wanted to host spaces for unity on campus and do it for a great cause. As you know, we have the kickback with BSU (Black Student Union) for a bigger purpose. The purpose is the donating to families in need for the holidays. For the study hall night, we’re hosting students of different majors to help each other out because this time of the year is when students begin to feel extra stressed. For department treats, we will be going to every department at AUM and showing them our appreciation by giving them snacks and goodies! We know it is not easy being an educator, and we want to give back to them the way they give back to us! And lastly, the yard show, we want to let the students know who we are and that, as a chapter, we stand for brotherhood scholarship and service, above all else.”

About Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.

The Founders deeply wished to create an organization that viewed itself as “a part of” the general community rather than “apart from” the general community. They believed that each potential member should be judged by his own merits, rather than his family background or affluence…without regard to race, nationality, skin tone or texture of hair. They desired for their fraternity to exist as part of an even greater brotherhood which would be devoted to the “inclusive we” rather than the “exclusive we.”
