AUM implements Virtual Handshake

By: Gracie Keith

Whether you are nearing the end of your time here at Auburn University at Montgomery
(AUM) or just beginning AUM is committed to seeing students succeed. AUM has partnered
with Handshake to ensure student success in school as well as in their future endeavors.
Handshake is an online recruiting platform for college students and university alumni. If you are
looking for an internship, part-time job or even full-time job handshake connects you with
different employers and companies to see that your time not just at school but out of the
classroom is beneficial. Why should you choose Handshake over other job posting sites?
Handshake is vetted by your specific university, which allows for a job listing to be specified to
your needs and criteria. Jobs and events posted on the site are catered toward students. The
employers and hosts are looking to employ students from AUM. Not only are you looking for a
job, but recruiters are looking for you. Recruiters reach out to students in an attempt to bridge
the gap between companies and students to employ students within the application.

Handshake has many different features including three helpful tabs, which include jobs, events
and employers. Under the jobs tab, you can personalize your criteria in your job search. You can look up
jobs under your major or hobbies. Under the events tab, it will broadcast an array of events for
you to attend to help further your career. You are also able to look up specific employers and
companies. On the opposite side, you are given an inbox where you can communicate
with others within the application. The tab most useful and catered specifically to your school
would be the Career Center. This allows students to see exactly what is going on within the
career center at AUM. The Career Center gives dates and information for upcoming events and allows you to make appointments, participate in surveys and even track your co-op and internship experiences. Handshake is an incredible resource that AUM has implemented for students. For more information log in to you MyAum account and locate the Handshake tab and try it out for yourself.
