Movie Review: The Addams Family

BY: Molly Gray The Addams Family is something that most of us grew up watching. Therefore, we have a good idea of what we envision the Addams family looks like and acts like. I was excited to see this new version to see how they would change the story or how the family acted or looked. Here are my thoughts on this new movie. I really liked how you could easily tell which animated character went with the live version that many of us have seen. Morticia was tall and slender. Gomez had the iconic black hair and mustache. Wednesday had her dark hair in the familiar pigtails. Pugsley was the only one with light-colored hair. I will say that I did not like how Gomez was larger in size than what I am use to seeing. Wednesday’s head was also a strange shape, but I believe that it went with...

Borderlands 3 Review: New Touches to a Familiar Formula

BY: Cory Donde With the same grind for loot, familiar faces from previous entries, and several returning enemy types, it would be easy to mistake Borderlands 3 as an over-glorified DLC for Borderlands 2. However, with enough new mechanics, new weapons manufacturers with interesting gun quirks, and a pair of new antagonists, Borderlands 3 makes its mark in the ten-year-old franchise from 2K and Gearbox. The new story follows a new set of vault hunters on their journey to foil the plans of the Calypso twins, Tyreen and Troy, and their quest to become gods. Along with the main quest, there are the token Borderlands side quests, as well as the hunt for loot that the original looter shooter in the series made so addicting.  As a long running fan of the series, I was concerned abou...

Student Spotlight: Air Force ROTC with Savannah Cowart & Derek Paul

BY: Allison Stewart With Veteran’s Day just around the corner, it is important to reflect on our nation’s military.  Dedicating their lives to ensure our safety and freedom, our veterans protect the livelihoods that Americans tend to take for granted. This upcoming Veteran’s Day, make it a priority to reach out to those who have served our country and say, “Thank you!” Simple gratitude holds great power.   As we thank our military, it is also important to reach out to those who are currently serving or are preparing to do so. At AUM, there are two ROTC programs: Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (AROTC) and Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC). Both are dedicated to preparing aspiring leaders for military service .   Unfamiliar with AFRO...

AUM vs. Montevallo Recap

BY: Allison Singleterry Auburn University at Montgomery men’s soccer team is now 3rd in the Gulf South Conference standings after beating University of Montevallo in a rematch on Tuesday. They now have a conference record of 4-0-2. Montevallo is currently ranked eighth in the GSC standings and has a conference record of 3-3. AUM originally played Montevallo on Oct. 18. Montevallo was up 2-1 and just after halftime, one of the lights on AUM’s field cut out. Regulation requires the whole field to be properly lit for the entire duration of the game. After waiting about an hour, they decided to reschedule the game for Oct. 22. Brazilian Junior, Lucas Batistela, scored with 38 seconds left in the match for a 1-0 win over Montevallo. AUM outshot Montevallo 19 to five. Seven of those sh...

Festive Fall Specials

BY: Allison Stewart Fall knocks at our door when the leaves change, sweaters emerge, and football is on every television.  Oh, and do not forget the fuzzy socks. Fall does not only change the weather and our clothes, though. Many restaurants get into the spirit by offering fall specials. This is the only time of the year they are offered, so you need to try as many of these items before they are gone. Starbucks surely increases their sales during this season as pumpkin flavors take over the menu. This season’s offers include: Caramel Apple Spice, Pumpkin Spice Latte, Pumpkin Spice Latte Frappuccino and Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew. Something you may not know is you can ask to add pumpkin syrup in any of your favorite beverages. Check out your local Starbucks today to see what it is...
