Captain Marvel Has Arrived!

BY: Brittany Vallely The new Captain Marvel trailer was recently released on Sept. 18, 2018, and is already making history for women in film everywhere. Statistically, many female leads in film are known to be young, small and white, who’s other leading companion is usually a man. Even though times are changing, there are still more roles for women in the business who fit this description. Captain Marvel/ Carol Danvers, played by award winning actress Brie Larson, is a game changer in the Marvel movie franchise because she has many responsibilities. First, at the end of Marvel’s movie Infinity War there is an extended ending that symbolizes Captain Marvel’s arrival. This means the character is already an important aspect to the next Infinity War. However, Captain Marvel needs her own...

Facebook’s New Voice Assistant- Aloha!

BY: Brittany Vallely There is Siri, Alexa, Cortina, and now Aloha. Facebook is getting ready to launch their own voice assistant that will be more dependable than the rest, according to an article on Social Media Week. Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, worked on his own personal voice assistant for over a year and was inspired by Iron Man’s Jarvis. He is now using those codes to create a speaker for the public. Cloverdale Playhouse Presents: “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead!”

BY: Kodi Robertson Anyone who has ever heard of William Shakespeare knows or has at least heard of “Hamlet”. “Hamlet” is the classic revenge tragedy that has been retold over and over, and over, and over again. Retellings of the same story is quite common in theatre, but spin-offs are where these stories shine brightest. “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead!” gives audiences the story of “Hamlet” from the perspective of comic relief characters Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. For those who do not know, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are friends of Hamlet’s from school. Imagine Timon and Pumba from “The Lion King” being able to tell their side of the story. Wait, they already have a movie for that? That is because “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead!” provided the “Lion King ½” inspirati...

Going Vegan in College

BY: Emily Mann   When it comes to rising trends around the nation many people are quick to follow.  What a lot of people do not think of are the food trends. Veganism has become a vastly increasing food trend among millennials.  The majority of the population does not go vegan because they believe in the fast spreading myths. These incorrect facts are statements such as: “Going vegan is too expensive” and “You need meat for protein strength and proper health”. The common ignorance around the term “Vegan” leads individuals to stray away from the diet or lifestyle.  Being vegan in terms of diet means a person does not consume any animal products. This means no dairy, no eggs, no honey, and no meat.  In terms of lifestyle being vegan means consuming food free of animal products...

Venom: Expectation vs Reality

BY: Kodi Robertson Sony continues to hold a firm grip on the Spiderman franchise. Rumored to not have the Amazing Web-head featured in this movie Venom aims to prove that the titular character Venom can stand alone without Spidey. When the first trailer dropped, all eyes were set on their own computer screens waiting to see Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock morph into Venom. Fans were left waiting, wanting, and desiring to see how much more improvement was made since Spiderman 3. Make no mistake, Topher Grace did a brilliant job with the script provided and given circumstances of the film. Eddie Brock needs a bigger body to embody the essence of Venom. With any comic book movie comes the risk of always disappointing hardcore comic book fans, but how much disappointment is reasonable and unreasona...

Featured Features: The Nun

Full of opinions, but free of spoilers. The latest feature to come out in the megaplex was the highly anticipated spooky movie, The Nun. The Nun follows the origin story of our good pal, Valak. Sister Valak made her first appearance in s hared universe The Conjuring 2, when she appeared for our favorite ghost hunter, Lorraine Warren. Valak undeniably made a lot of hearts stop and eyes hide behind fingers in her big screen debut, so the likelihood of her getting her own movie was very strong from the get go. When the news broke that Valak was getting her own movie for real, I was super pumped! I mean, she was terrifying in The Conjuring 2 and I craved more of her black sunken eyes and pointy nose. Then the first, and only, trailer came out for The Nun and I was still intrigued but not as h...
