The Women’s basketball team is one game away from completing their 2018 season. In the beginning of the season, the Warhawks came out of the Gulf South Conference with a 2-0 record, beating not only Tuskegee, but Miles College as well. With losses to Young Harris College, Tuskegee, and Lee in November, the Warhawks had a change of pace and started off December with a win over Shorter. As the 2017 year came to a close, the Warhawks fell to Anderson College at home on December 30th. The Warhawks’ first win of the 2018 year came on January 13th when they took down The University of Alabama at Huntsville.
In the midst of this season, the team is also having to form a Division III team to becoming a Division II team. For junior Evelina Avleeva, the “most challenging part of the transition is not being able to compete in post season.” When asked about any goals she had for herself or the team, Evelina said “The main goal for us is to get better individually and as a team during the summer and win the Gulf South Conference next year.” With this basketball season coming to a close, the Warhawks’ post season will be exactly what the team needs in order to build a solid foundation for an incredible 2019 season. One thing the Warhawks can be sure of is that their hard work for the sport that they love never goes unnoticed. Whether it is noticed by the coaches, family or friends in the stands, or even the opposing team on the court, the Warhawks basketball team come to play and play to win.
Because of their limitless talent, passion, dedication and resiliency, this team is not one to forget about. Be sure to mark your calendars for the start of the 2019 season and have a copy of the schedule handy, because the basketball team means business. Go Warhawks!
