Weekly Life Hacks: Tea Bags

BY: Ambria Davis

Reusing old tea bags is a great way to help around the house by cleaning and protecting everyday household items and health.

The tea bag was accidentally invented by an American named Thomas Sullivan. The purpose of the tea bag is to give the hot ancient drink a better taste by concentrating the leaves in one area. Today, we use tea bags just for making tea, but there are more ways to use them.

Reusing tea bags around the house can provide daily beauty and health benefits, and it’s great for nature. For beauty and health, tea bags can heal bruises, soothe minor sunburns, heal dry and chapped lips, reduce inflammation, repel pests, and provide relief from poison ivy.

Using them around the house can help rustproof a cast-iron skillet, scrub a pan clean, and clean dark leather shoes. This great reusable tool can also enrich a compost pile and provide extra nutrients to plants. A little known fact about tea bags is that they can be used to marinate and tenderize meat. When first opened from the box, tea bags can deodorize rooms and litter boxes.

Tea bags are just seen as one-time use objects; however, you can stretch one bag out in many ways. Even the bags themselves are decomposable just like the contents on the inside.  Recycling and reusing items is the best way to help the environment and also help your wallet.

That’s all for Weekly Life Hacks. The next segment is on: Hydrogen Peroxide. Can you unclog drains by mixing hydrogen peroxide and baking soda? Can it clear up acne? Can it help clean ears and contact lenses?
