The National Pan-Hellenic Council + AUM Welcome Two More

BY: Kenyetta Stephens

It’s Black History Month, and you can’t talk about Black history without bringing up Black fraternities and sororities. The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) is made up of nine Black Greek Letter Organizations (BGLOs), aka the Divine Nine. The NPHC was founded on May 10, 1930, and was incorporated in 1937. BGLOs have made significant impacts on communities, more specifically Black communities. We are excited to welcome two organizations back to campus this spring.

This semester, AUM has the pleasure to welcome two National Pan-Hellenic Council organizations back to campus. Last semester, AUM announced the return of the Omicron Lambda Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated, chartered October 13, 2001, and the Rho Lambda Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated, chartered April 25, 1982. It has been a while since the campus has seen these two, however, the excitement is through the roof to welcome them back. Jayla Brown, President of the Nu Xi Chapter, states, “We are all really excited to welcome the men of Kappa Alpha Psi and the women of Zeta Phi Beta back to campus. I am excited to see the impact that they have on AUM and Montgomery in general.”

These two join five other NPHC organizations on campus, including the Upsilon Eta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., Nu Xi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Omicron Mu Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., Alpha Psi Alpha Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc., and Pi Lambda Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. Each organization is active in community service on AUM’s campus, as well as the city of Montgomery.

Both the Omicron Lambda and Rho Lambda Chapters have hosted their Spring 2022 informational. If you want to stay up to date on events and community service, follow their Instagrams:  @aum_nphc, @aum_nupes and @rholambda_zetas.
