Summertime

BY: Taniya Frazier

Young hearts desire a good time for any occasion, especially summer. Summer is the time to be free, flourish, and make unforgettable memories. The summer is where you lose worries and be relaxed. Forget about the fact that you’re moving away soon. Forget that you may have summer classes. Forget that every summer you don’t have the best of times. I declare that this summer is yours! With these tips, I’m sure you will have the time of your life!

1. Spend time with your friends.

This may seem like a simple task, but that’s because it is! I know you like to spend time with your best friends; however, you should spend time with everyone that you call a friend. When you spend time with all of your friends, you get different types of energy from everyone. One of your friends can be super adventurous and you guys could go rock climbing for a day. However, your other friend loves to just relax and hang out with popcorn and movies at your friend’s house. When you open your time to everyone, you can get more memories than you’ve ever imagined, and they won’t all be the same.

2. Go on a spontaneous trip.

No money needed over here! I’m not talking about an extravagant trip to California or Florida. Although, that does sound pretty sweet! I’m talking about a trip with your friends or loved ones that puts a smile on your face. A spontaneous trip can simply be calling up your friends and going on a scavenger hunt in the city for the best hangout spots or going to the park with your family for a picnic on a cool day. Now there is nothing wrong with going on a trip that requires a little more cha-ching. Packing up the car with your friends, food, and towels for a short trip down to the beach sounds very refreshing on a hot day. Some of the best trips can be the unplanned ones, so don’t sweat it if you’re at home doing nothing. Call up some friends and make memories happen!

3. Spend time with family

Home sweet home! Now is the time to kick up your feet and talk about your experiences with your loved ones. Now is the time to catch up with your siblings (if you have them) and see how they’re doing. Crowd everyone around the TV and watch a movie that will make everyone laugh. Tell your loved ones that you love them because life is too short and your loved ones are awesome.

4. Forget unnecessary things.

I know this can be a daunting task because I am always thinking about things; however, thinking too much detaches you from the moment that you are in. I understand if you didn’t get the highest grade on your finals. I understand if you just lost a best friend. I understand if you just moved into a new city and you don’t know anyone. I get it. Don’t fret over the things that have already happened. Live in your tomorrow and make the best of your situation. Make new friends and venture out into the city that you live in. Forget what happened yesterday and make the best of today.

5. Live in the moment.

Living in the moment is more than just being there. Living in the moment means to interact and be there mentally as well. If all of your friends are enjoying the activity, join in on the fun and give it a chance. Relax your mind and enjoy the time that you are spending with your loved ones. Take off your cool cap if you think that the activity is lame- laugh it off and join in on the memories. You could be the one that stands in the way of your own great time. Whether you’re introverted or extroverted, everyone deserves to have a great time.
