Alabama is always a sight to see during any season, especially in the fall. As the fully bloomed plants began to wither and change to the beautiful fall colors we know and love, Alabama transforms into an unforgettable experience. When most people think of fall they think about Halloween, but Alabama has much more to fall into during this new season.
Alabama is the home of two SEC football teams; the University of Alabama and Auburn University. This is the time of the year where seeing un-painted faces and anything without a team logo is rare. Homes, business, and cars are even filled with football decorations. Though our AUM Warhawks do not have a football team, we do have a soccer team that is currently in season. If SEC football isn’t your thing, go check out some of the on-campus sports teams!
This new season also brings more gatherings. Due to the sports events like tailgating and homecoming, Alabamians tend to do more grilling this time of year. Since fall is not harshly cold, there is nothing wrong with dragging a flat screen outside to enjoy the game and gathering around a grill or hanging outside the football stadium for freshly grilled hotdogs, hamburgers, and chicken.
Fall is also the season for the Alabama National Fair, which has been held in Montgomery, AL since 1954. This year the fair will be held October 4 through October 14. It has special events every day. Whether it’s live music, discounts, or giveaways, the Alabama National Fair has something for you. So if you love rides, games, good music, funnel cakes and other carnival foods, and giveaways you should check out our annual fair! For more information please visit https://alnationalfair.org.
There are also several festivals throughout Alabama during the fall. One of the biggest festival attractions in Alabama is the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, which has been the designated State Theatre of Alabama since 1977. It has something for everybody, whether its educational, religious, or performing arts. The best part is its right here in Montgomery! Near Montgomery, the City of Auburn has a ton of upcoming fall festivals like the 2nd Annual Oysterfest, held on September 24th and the 3rd Annual East Alabama Non-Profit Summit, held on October 9th. Alabama has several events for anything you can think of, so if you want to have fun or just give back to the community, you can find a festival that’s right for you!
So, you see, fall in Alabama consists of way more than Halloween. It has events and festivals to offer everyone. If you are new to the state or want to try something, go out and explore these wonderful events and fall into a new season!
