The birds are chirping, the flowers are blooming, and the pollen is creating a yellow tint on the cars, tables, and art statues around campus; it is safe to say that spring has sprung. With more hours of daylight and warm, breezy evenings, the 10th Annual Spring Concert Series hosted by the Cloverdale-Idlewild Neighborhood Association provides the perfect activity for Sunday evenings.

The free concert series started in 2007 as a neighborhood event but has grown in popularity over the years. Now, the concerts held in Cloverdale’s’ Bottom Park hosts people from all over the city and surrounding counties. Not only does the concert series provide neighborhood locals the opportunity to interact with neighbors they see walking their dog or running on their way to work, but an opportunity to connect and foster relationships with others from around the River Region area as well.

Cloverdale resident, Dawn Ellis, explained how she enjoys seeing how the growth of the event appeals to such a diverse audience. “Young and old, people from all walks of life look forward to enjoying the music on Sunday afternoons,” Ellis said.

Between 100 and 200 people attend every week to enjoy the spring weather and local musicians. Guests bring blankets, lawn chairs, and even picnic baskets to secure their spot around the pavilion where bands set up. This family-friendly event has inflatables for the kids and even welcomes leashed pets so furry friends can enjoy the beautiful weather and music too. Performances kick off at 4 p.m. and last until 7 p.m. but many arrive early to socialize and get good seating.

The Cloverdale Spring Concert Series has already kicked off but has a few more performers scheduled for May.

May 8: The Shouting Stones

May 15: Caribbean Chrome

May 22: The Back, Hines, Mason Dixon Trio

“I wasn’t familiar with the performer, but decided I would see what it was about,” said Myla Marshall. “The music was great, people where nice, and the atmosphere left me refreshed and ready to take on the week ahead,” Marshall said.

Come enjoy the free music and build relationships within the community. Cloverdale Bottom Park is located at the Intersection of Cloverdale Road and Ponce de Leon Avenue. For more information on the performers or events, visit the Cloverdale Idlewild Association’s Facebook page.
