AUM’s Introduction to Meditation

BY: Jess Alldredge Montgomery, Ala. – Oct. 31, 2020 – Meditation is a helpful tool to use when trying to create inner-peace and keep yourself stable in a very unstable world. College students may find that meditation can help them focus, find better balance in an unpredictable time and provide an outlet for stress. AUM will offer a reoccurring event focused on teaching the basics of meditation to students starting Thursday, November 5 from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM. There are no specific requirements, and no mat is required. It won’t be specific to any religion and will be inclusive and respectful to all walks of life. Instructors will be focusing on the basics of meditation as a stress relief exercise and a way to practice mindfulness. They will provide guided instruction on how studen...

Theatre AUM and COVID 19

BY: Jayla Brown AUM’s campus looks completely different for everyone this semester. There has been a lot of change, which means a lot of adjusting to our “new normal”. This week I had the opportunity to catch up with Professor Neil Seibel about the changes happening in the theatre department.  When asked about adjusting to COVID-19 guidelines here at AUM, Seibel said, “We are adjusting. Theatre and the arts have always been about adapting to the circumstances, so in an odd way our students were rather uniquely prepared to handle the shift to hybrid experience.”  Many classes, activities, and club meetings on campus have been moved either strictly online or partially online. As for the theatre department, Seibel stated, “Instruction has moved to in-class and simulcast, m...

Untangle Your Noodle Through Practicing Mindfulness

BY: Jessica Alldredge Montgomery, Ala. – Sept. 18, 2020 – Good mental health is important for anyone. College students face struggles that can cause stress, depression and anxiety. Between a changing school culture, work concerns and a change in social structure, it can be difficult for a college student to keep with everything.  When it comes to keeping your mind healthy, it can be hard to know where to start.   AUM Counseling and Health Promotion Services offers a mindfulness interactive Zoom meeting for college students. Auburn University at Montgomery students have the opportunity to learn about mindfulness as a therapeutic coping skill. The Untangle Your Noodle Through Practicing Mindfulness takes place on Tuesdays at 3:30 p.m., via Zoom. Mindfulness is a tech...

NCAA Makes Right Move with Eligibility Announcement

BY: Jason Martin In the middle of all the uncertainty around college athletics as a result of the COVID-19 virus, the NCAA made the right move and shut down sports for the foreseeable future. One thing that had sports fans and student athletes concerned was the question surrounding students’ eligibility. There is a lot that goes into giving a student-athlete their eligibility back. Scholarships, incoming freshmen, and promised playing time makes for an interesting and difficult decision on how to continue with this decision. Winter sport athletes like basketball may have a more difficult time arguing an extra year of eligibility because their season was either over or ending within the next few weeks if the virus had not shut everything down. Spring sports, however, had major conce...

BY: Allison Stewart Excellence is the standard for academics and community service in the AUM University Honors Program. Inspired by global citizenship and a “blowing up the box” mentality, UHP strives to create quality students. Hadassah Gaddis and Brennan DePace are no exception to UHP’s mission. As Warhawks in UHP, Hadassah and Brennan are required to complete honors seminars and colloquiums. These courses force students to think critically and welcome a diverse way of thinking. Student Spotlight: Air Force ROTC with Savannah Cowart & Derek Paul

BY: Allison Stewart With Veteran’s Day just around the corner, it is important to reflect on our nation’s military.  Dedicating their lives to ensure our safety and freedom, our veterans protect the livelihoods that Americans tend to take for granted. This upcoming Veteran’s Day, make it a priority to reach out to those who have served our country and say, “Thank you!” Simple gratitude holds great power.   As we thank our military, it is also important to reach out to those who are currently serving or are preparing to do so. At AUM, there are two ROTC programs: Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (AROTC) and Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC). Both are dedicated to preparing aspiring leaders for military service .   Unfamiliar with AFRO...

AUM’s Mid- Autumn Festival

BY: Kaleria Jackson The Office of Global Initiatives hosted a Mid- Autumn Festival this October on the Quad. The festival included different offices from all over campus that came out to participate in the festivities. The offices had multiple tables set up across the Quad, with each table having different activities or goodies. As students came out to the event, you could see how excited they were to see the festival going on. I was able to go around to each table to glance at what each office decided to do at the festival. The students had the chance to play musical chairs to win cake pops or bowl for a chance to win an AUM bottle. As for the food, there was sweet potato pie, cake pops, popcorn, cookie cake, candy, spring rolls, crab rangoon, wontons, and more. Students raved about h...
