We are still four and half months away from the start of the NFL season and people are already wondering who is going to win the Super Bowl. We’ll look no further, and we’ll take a look at who might just be the favorites to win it all again this year. I think that there are four legitimate candidates.
The first being, you guessed it, the New England Patriots. New England has yet to have a bad season under Belichick, and until they prove us all wrong and have a terrible season, it only makes logical sense to have them in the mix for the upcoming season. Sure, the retirement of Rob Gronkowski is going to hurt their already depleted WR core. However, they still have the greatest QB of all-time in Tom Brady. They’ve always found a way, and they are going to do so again this year.
The Chiefs are the greatest threat to the Patriots in the AFC. QB Patrick Mahomes is ready to take the stage for the 2019 season and lead his team to not only the AFC championship but also to the Super Bowl. They have the most explosive offense in the league, but the defense will need to shape up a bit in order to win it all.
In the NFC, it seems the Saints are shaping up to best the best team. Yes, they lost Mark Ingram in the offseason, but with Alvin Kamara in the backfield, New Orleans will be just fine. I think that this is going to be the last great year we see from Drew Brees, so expect to see the Saints leave nothing on the table this year.
Finally, the Eagles will perform much more like their 2017 Super Bowl team again this year. QB stability will be key for Philadelphia this season. Having Carson Wentz back for the entirety of the season will really help their offense. The acquisition of Jordan Howard from the Bears helps the Eagles also have a much more effective run game, similar to that of the 2017 team. The Eagles are really going to surprise a lot of people this upcoming season, and their battle with New Orleans in this past NFC Divisional speaks volumes for that.
