Lip syncing has become an enormously popular form of entertainment over the past decade. Television shows such as “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and “Saturday Night Live” are known to include hilarious lip-syncing skits. There is even a show dedicated solely to lip syncing, appropriately called “Lip Sync Battle,” where celebrities lip sing and dance to well-known songs. Many high schools and colleges have put together lip sync events, including Prattville High School and Huntingdon College. Now, AUM is on the map too!

Alpha Gamma Delta is hosting the second annual Lip Jam event on campus on April 29. The festivities will take place in the Taylor Center at 6:30 p.m. Lip Jam is a competition between different entities on campus, including Greek organizations and the BCM. Any student group can participate in next year’s shenanigans, but the registration for the 2016 edition has been closed. The singers compete for a cash prize of $250! Delta Zeta was named last year’s Lip Jam champions after an amusing composition of the songs Space Jam, Wannabe, and Ice Ice Baby as a response to the Decades theme. Former Delta Zeta President, Ashley Holstein, even executed the coffee grinder, a breakdance move that was immensely popular in the 90s to which the crowd screamed and applauded.

This year’s theme is “Battle of the Bands,” and organizations will be performing to an assemblage of songs from the band or bands they chose from a hat drawing. The bands range from Nirvana to Cheetah Girls. Admission is $3 for students with the presence of an AUM ID, and $5 for those who are not students. Food concessions, including Nancy’s Italian Ice, will be sold at the event. All proceeds for this event fund the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation which supports diabetes research and education.

Last year’s Lip Jam battle was a blast for both participants and audience members. Alpha Gamma Delta and all organizations on campus have put in a lot of time and effort to put together an event that is both enjoyable and rewarding. “We are so excited for Lip Jam and we really hope that all of you will come and have fun with us,” said Brianna Wilson, AGD President. The event not only supports Alpha Gamma Delta’s amazing philanthropic efforts but also the philanthropy of the winning team. Moreover, why wouldn’t you want to watch fellow students make a fool of themselves to your favorite songs? There are no real losers in this competition.
