The Alabama Humanities Foundation is hosting ANABRANCH, an event in Montgomery at the end of this week, running between April 11-13. ANABRANCH is an event to celebrate different art forms throughout Alabama and the surrounding area. The event will conclude on April 13th with the 2019 Alabama Book Festival that aims to promote reading and literacy for all ages. The festival will take place at 301 Columbus St. in Old Alabama Town in downtown Montgomery with over 4,000 people expected to be in attendance. The festival will run between 10:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. and is free to the public.
Guests will have an array of activities and options to choose from. There will be authors speaking during set times. Also, scholars will be on hand if you want to get experience and input from them. Authors that are expected to be in attendance and speaking include Imani Perry, Charles Waters, Irene Latham, Bethany Hegedus, S.F. Henson, and many more. It is expected to be a fun day for the entire family, as a children’s activity center will also be set up and available. Free writing workshops will take place and if you want to participate, and you will also have the option to get on an open mic stage to share your story. In addition, there will be a variety of vendors and refreshments with food vendors being in attendance.
The festival and ANABRANCH will come to a final close at the Alley Bar downtown at 166 Commerce Street. Between 6:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. a special event will be held, and all guests are invited. The 2019 Hall-Waters Prize for Excellence in Southern Writing winners, Dan Penn
