Warhawk Spotlight: D’Cara Hood

D’Cara Hood, a senior at AUM, will be graduating in the upcoming Fall Semester. She is majoring in communication. She decided to attend college, because she enjoys the challenge and believes she can handle anything the world puts in front of her. Hood chose her major, because she always wanted to cover Saturdays in the South, on game day. She graduated from an all magnet broadcast journalism high school, which made her love the camera even more!

Here at AUM, she is involved in Student Government Association, Successful Warhawk Orientation and Transition’s Team (SWOT) Orange Jacket Society, Peer Advocate mentor, and Communication Club.

Whenever she’s not busy on campus, Hood loves to take pictures, listen to music, shop, and spend time with her family during her free time.

Hood has had multiple people in her life that have been major influences on her during her time at AUM. Her biggest influences are her parents and her fiancé. They have been by her side to constantly motivate her to go above and beyond. They desire for her to be great and do great things in life. There is one professor here at AUM that has been very influential to her. That professor is Dr. Jeff Bates, who teaches essential of economics class. Hood says Bates has taught her to really enjoy economics.

Hood’s definition of success is to stay motivated by ambition through faith. After graduating, she plans on obtaining her master’s degree from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton Florida or the University of North Carolina Greensboro. There, she plans on studying event planning and hospitality management.

She wants the upcoming seniors to, “enjoy your college days, and do not let them pass you by. If you can, get involved, and live it up. Then before you know it, it will be time to walk across that stage!”
