Making My Way Around Town

BY: D’Cara Hood

When you first moved away from home, you thought what am I going to do. I am away from my mom, dad, friends, and my dog can someone help? The only thing you knew about Montgomery, Alabama was where your school was, and how to get to your dorm room. Hailed as the Birth place of Civil Rights, let’s see what we can get into.

Montgomery is full of hidden gems once you learn your way around. From having a great time to learning the history of the Capitol of Dreams there is something for everyone.

The Rosa Parks Museum. Come and learn about the Montgomery bus boycott in 1955. Come and experience your first take on segregation in the south.

Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts is a place for all art lovers. With exhibits and sculptures, and African American art history come let your inner artist out.

The Riverfront offers entertainment programs, concerts and events, alongside the popular splash pad for the kiddies.

The Alabama Shakespeare Festival. (ASF) For all my theater buffs you must visit go watch a show in the award-winning theater.

The Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church. Come and stand on the front steps of the church where Dr. King made his journey from Montgomery to Memphis.

The Alabama State Capitol. Come and explore where all important things go on in the great state of Alabama.

This is just a little run down of what you can do here. So, take this to do list and find you something worthwhile to do. Montgomery offers you a ton of fun so take it and run with it!
