One person was shot at the AUM North Commons parking lot on Friday around noon and sustained non-life-threatening injuries. According to a witness, an irrigation worker who requested to remain anonymous, two people were in a physical altercation when one of them pulled a firearm and shot the other. The individuals involved were not students.

According to a statement from Brenda Mitchell, Chief of Police Operations at AUM, the subject firing the shot has been taken into custody and is being interviewed. AUM Campus Police is investigating the incident in conjunction with the Montgomery Police Department.

At around 1 p.m., local news, Montgomery Police and AUM Police arrived at the North Commons parking lot closest to Warhawk Hall. “I’ve been in my dorm here in the North Commons all day,” said Katelyn Turner, a resident in the Northern Commons.  “I never heard a gunshot and there were no announcements made over the intercom regarding it. I can’t believe I somehow missed what happened.”

All weapons including concealed firearms are prohibited on campus. The names of the individuals involved in the incident have not been released yet.
