Basketball season is upon us and it’s time for us to get hype! With our transition into Division II we have some very excited students on campus ready to cheer on our team. Preston Collins took his excitement and put a plan into action and with that we have a new student section, “The Curtiss Crazies.” With a relatively young campus he wanted to instill some more tradition on campus in hopes this would inspire others to feel just as passionate. “I just thought the Curtiss Crazies would catapult us into a traditional school when it comes to sports and actually have a student section so people would have a reason to come to the games besides watching our team play,” said Collins. Get Connected with the AUM Common Reading Program

About five years ago, the AUM Connected: Common Reading Program began at Auburn University at Montgomery. It was initially housed under the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching where the founder of the Warhawk Academic Success Center pushed for the program to implement the common reading program. As of this year, the program is officially under the WASC. Dr. Virginia Lacy, the Director of the WASC, says that the common reading program “exposes students to a book that they might not otherwise read and it gives a common theme or element for everybody to come around.” This semester’s common reading book is Dracula by Bram Stoker. AUM Forum to Teach Safe Sex Practices

On Monday, November 13, the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership will hold “Sex in the Dark: A Safe Sex Forum” to provide information for anyone interested in learning about safe sex practices. The event will take place in Goodwyn Hall 109 and begin at 6 p.m. This event will be very informative and beneficial for students who do not know the risks of having unprotected sex. It will provide information on birth control and how to avoid unwanted pregnancies, as well as information on condoms and how to prevent the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. The event will also discuss ways to take responsibility for your sexual health and to stay safe on campus while earning your degree. Film Event to Commemorate Veterans

On Monday, November 13th at 7:00 p.m., the Political Film Series will show the film When Trumpets Fade to commemorate those who fought in World War II for Veterans Day. This event will take place in room 113 of Goodwyn Hall. This showing is co-sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences where Dr. Ben Severance will be giving an introduction on the film’s subject. This film, which was released in 1998, was directed by John Irvin. It is set in Europe during WWII where the Battle of Hürtgen took place. It portrays the battle that took place between the Americans and Germans on the border of Belgium and Germany. A Sneak-Peak Into Grad School at AUM

On Thursday, November 16th from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m, there will be a Grad School Preview taking place on the Auburn University at Montgomery campus. It will be located in Taylor Center, room 221 to 223. It is advised that students register for this event through the AUM website. This event will provide the opportunity for students to discover if a master’s degree is right for them and specifically, which field of study would be best. The application fee will be waived for everyone who attends this event, as well as the potential for application decisions to be made during the event.
